Dear Freelee the Banana Girl
Dear Freelee the Banana Girl, I’m a relatively new health and wellness blogger with a humble following. Many of us, including the uber popular, have started our blogs, vlogs and businesses because we have learned great lessons, transformed ourselves and started to be asked “our…
What I Learned From Hating Myself
If I looked in the mirror right now, I could probably pick out a handful of things I hate about myself. The fact that I gained weight, my loss of individual identity, my creative drive… While I think about these things, I try not to…
The Joy You Feel
Acknowledge when you feel joy. It could be as simple as a quote on a tea bag that makes you feel joy, but it’s important to be conscious of the things that make you feel this way. No matter how big or small they seem, the joy you consciously feel will help shape your frame of mind for when you’re in not so pleasant situations. I have come to celebrate the little things in life. I acknowledge the joy a California sunset gives me, the joy I feel when I experience nature, they joy I feel when I realize that the simplest things are all I need in life…
Listening to the World
I went for a walk recently and although I had my Ipod on me, I didn’t use it. Typically, I love to have music playing and blasting in my ears while I’m working out, but I noticed on this particular walk that by the time I was done, my head was completely clear and I was motivated for the week to come. I attribute this sense of euphoria to actually listening to the world around me. It was a bright, warm day and I was present in that moment. I was conscience of my breathing, something I haven’t been listening to for some time. I was alive.
How to Build an Altar of Good Vibes
You don’t have to be religious to build an altar. Honestly, I combine so many different things into my altar, even though I’m catholic. What items, images, or ideas do you attribute to good vibes? Now think about where you want to place them all for you to see every day. That’s all an altar really is… a space for you to focus positive energy.
Don’t Forget to Laugh
Having suffered from depression I’ve learned that the faster you can acknowledge your stressors and them let them go, the happier you’ll be. Sleep may help cure all sorts of things that ail you, but laughter is really the best medicine.
Badass Affirmations
You are a badass. No, really! You are. You should tell yourself things like this every day. Don’t wait for someone else to validate how awesome you are. It’s about knowing your own self-worth and realizing your own potential. Sure, it’s nice when other people see that, but at the end of the day, you need to be your own cheerleader. Most of your self-confidence and drive should come from how you view yourself. What makes you badass? Are you a wiz at work? An adventure seeker? Really good at a hobby? You don’t need to be an army ranger or thrill seeker to be a badass.
The Law of Attraction
I’ve talked about the fakers and the doers in another blog. They are people that either talk a lot of game or they’re actually working hard and doing things. When it comes to achieving your goals, it’s important to set intentions by speaking and writing what you want. I’ve watched the documentary The Secret about a dozen times. The Secret addresses the law of attraction. What you put into the world, you get back. Your thoughts are vibrations and have the ability to attract the things, but if you don’t actively work for your goals, will you achieve them?
Icons in Your Life
I know many people who have religious alters in the their homes. I like to have Jesus around looking down on me, especially when I think one of the girls on the third floor of my complex is possessed, but that’s a story for another day. What is it about having icons around that make us feel good? Religiously, it fills us with a sense of security when we feel that the spirit is with us, in our homes, keeping us safe, but what about other icons and altars? Ones that are solely based on good vibes, mojo, juju or whatever you want to call it. How can we surround ourselves with icons that we connect with on a higher level?
Book of Intentions
A Book of Intentions, not to be confused with the Book of Shadows from Charmed, may help you unlock your mind and start living to the fullest. You could call it a diary or a journal, but what I like about calling it a “Book of Intentions†is you can literally write down your future. This is a book for you to jot down all of your goals and wildest dreams. It’s also a place for you to write down daily feelings of gratitude and affirmations. I’m a firm believer in if you write it down, you will bring it to fruition.
