In one-way or another, we should all practice reaching spiritual enlightenment. This in no way has to do with religion. I’m talking about finding and feeling a higher consciousness of ones self and the world around you. Feed your soul with all of the good vibrations of the universe and find understanding and meaning in life. Why? A flood of positive vibrations will flood your mind, body, and soul and you’ll be able to handle whatever life throws you.

Keep Calm 

How many of you are reactionary? Before you fully assess a situation, you’re already reacting? I’ve been guilty of this too. Whether it’s over-analyzing or overthinking situations or not fully understanding a situation, flying off the handle is never good for you or anyone involved. There are times to get fired up and there are times we need to breathe. Learning to let the water roll off the duck’s back is challenging. But, in order to keep your mind happy, you need to learn how to stay calm. Eventually you’ll be able to remain calm in any situation.

The Joy You Feel 

Acknowledge when you feel joy. It could be as simple as a quote on a tea bag that makes you feel joy, but it’s important to be conscious of the things that make you feel this way. No matter how big or small they seem, the joy you consciously feel will help shape your frame of mind for when you’re in not so pleasant situations. I have come to celebrate the little things in life. I acknowledge the joy a California sunset gives me, the joy I feel when I experience nature, they joy I feel when I realize that the simplest things are all I need in life…

Eat More Calories 

One of the common misconceptions when losing weight is that you have to drastically cut your food intake to see results. I’ve been there too. I would eat below 1000 calories a day, essentially throwing my body into starvation mode. I now know that if you eat more you can lose more. WHAT, NIKKI?! Yes…. Fuel your body with MORE food and you will lose more. Of course, you still need to be moving that booty to burn calories or you’ll gain weight, but you definitely don’t have to starve yourself to get results any more!

We all have a fire inside us that burns bright. That fire is your passion. For some of us, especially creative types, there are multiple fires each wanting your focus and attention. While have all these passions is amazing, it can often times leave us feeling exhausted and confused. If you ever wondered why creative people are so screwed up, now you know. We have a million voices, projects, and ideas in our brains all day and we never know where to start. But that’s not necessarily a bad thing. We just need to learn to focus on one thing at a time, come up with a plan, and find an outlet for all that energy.

Never feel stuck. You are not a tree. Although I think it’s important to plant roots eventually, you should be flexible. There’s so much to experience in life that if you get to be like my friend, you can look at a map, pick up and go.

Thai Coconut Noodle Soup 

Let’s take a trip to Thailand! Tom Kha Gai, or Chicken Coconut Soup, is one of my favorite soups on the planet earth. It is THAT good. I’ll eat it any time, but it’s awesome if you have a bad cold. It’s so fresh and soothing that it clears your sinuses and helps you heal. Let your food be your medicine right? The fresh ginger and lemon grass is all you need to feel better. Soups are great for fall and they store easily, so you can make double or triple the recipe to freeze it. Meal prep friendly recipes have a special place in my kitchen, especially ones that are perfect for fall. What I love best about this recipe is that there is no salt added. You don’t always need to cook with salt!
