Facials: In What Order Should You Do Your Skincare Products?
Trying to keep the youthful look as long as possible? Attempting to undo some sun damage? There are so many products out there that all do different things. Maybe you need a combination for your goals or maybe you’re a purist that uses a simple cleanser and moisturizer. Having worked in the film industry for over a decade, I’ve put a lot of focus on what my skin looks like — even working in post production.
I care what I look like and I know many of you do to. Quarantine has been rough on all of us and I noticed my skin was getting cranky. Luckily, my esthetician was doing home facial kits. I sent her some photos of my face and a picture of all the products I was using. She put together a facial for me and dropped the products at my door. Then, we got on facetime and she walked me through the order to do it in and what products are needed for my skin goals. I have combination skin, more dehydrated than anything else and congestion along my jawline. At 33, I’m starting to get some fine lines — even someone who is always in sunblock and a hat outside!
You’re not going to do the full sha-bang facial every day, but the order in which you do things and the frequency is important. This is the order we did the facial products in…
Skin Smoothing Cream
That’s a lot of steps, but my skin looked and felt so happy! Once I continued the regimine on a daily basis, I was doing the microfoliant 3 days a week and the mask once a week. I dropped the eye serum (which I probably shouldn’t to be honest) and the lip oil. Basically, twice a day, morning and night, I do this:
Hydration Booster mixed into the Skin Smoothing Cream
In the research I did on my own, it looks like you can swap the order of the facial oil and the moisturizer depending on your skin needs and goals. It’s been working really well for me in this order, so just play with it.
Here are product links to what I’ve been using twice daily:
The mask I use once a week and the microfoliant I use 3 days a week are:
I hope to come out of quarantine looking better than I did when I went in! I know we don’t all have the same goals, but for me, when I look good, I feel good. So, I definitely recommend adding some products to your routine and taking the time for you. It’s pampering. It’s self care. Also, SUNBLOCK. It’s a necessity. There are so many mineral sunblocks on the market now that don’t clog your pores and I have a few tinted moisturizers that have SPF30 as well!
Let’s stay looking young for as long as possible!
