I like doing all sort of workouts, so I make sure I have the correct shoe for each activity. Why? Each workout uses your body differently. Sometimes, your feet and ankles need more support. Sometimes you need thick treads on your shoes for traction. Not every athletic shoe is made equally. I over-pronate, which means my ankles roll in when I run. This requires a corrective sneaker. Â For years this meant that my running shoes were UGLY, but in recent years, athletic sneakers have become more stylish… even for those of us with special feet. These are my picks for the top 10 most stylish athletic shoes!
Running
I’m a sucker for Asics and Brooks because they have amazing corrective sneakers, but they’re also the best brands for running sneakers, period. They’re a little bit more on the expensive side, but they’re a great investment because they last. Plus, I think they’re super chic and fun!
Asics:Â ASICS Women’s GEL-Kinsei 5 Running Shoe
Brooks:Â Brooks Women’s Transcend 3 Running Shoe
Walking
Yes, there are shoes specifically for walking. Depending on your joints, you may need more or less support., but you should never go walking in a super flat shoe… put the Chucks away! Here are two of my favorite low-profile walking sneakers.
Ryka:Â RYKA Women’s Dash Stretch Walking Shoe
New Balance:Â New Balance Women’s WA365v1 Walking Shoe
Hiking/Trail Run
All terrain is different. If you’re going on a real hike, you need a real hiking shoe. If you’re going to walk up Runyon Canyon, a trail runner will do! (Let’s be real, Los Angeles…) Both shoes have special treads to keep you from slipping and falling down a mountain.
Hi-Tech:Â Hi-Tec Women’s Skamania Mid-Rise Waterproof Hiking Boot
Merrell:Â Merrell Women’s All Out Crush Light Trail Runner
Crossfit/OCR
Specialty sports like Crossfit and Obstacle Course Racing have very specific needs when it comes to an athletic shoe. Support, traction, drainage… If you’re into these sports and not doing them in the correct shoe, you’re leaving yourself open to injuries. Please invest in the correct shoe!
Reebok:Â Reebok All Terrain Sprint Womens Running Shoe
Inov-8:Â Inov-8 Women’s Fastlift 335 Cross-Training Shoe
Cross-Trainers
Cross-trainers are the perfect gym shoe. You can lift, take an aerobics class, hop on a bike… they give you flexibility, literally and figuratively speaking.
Under Armour:Â Under Armour Women’s UA Micro G Limitless Training Shoes
Nike:Â Nike Women’s Free 5.0 TR Fit 5 Print Cross Trainer
On the market for some new athletic shoes? Ready to spruce up your sneaker game? I sure am! With spring just around the corner, treat yourself to some new kicks!

Currently in the process of shoe shopping with my oldest daughter, she hates athletic shoes but the rest of my kids wear them and like them, go figure. My middle son is on track and cross country so finding him a good, comfortable pair can be challenging.
