Every year, I have grand visions of reading more. Not on the computer. I’m talking real, actual books—curled up on my couch with tea and a blanket. THAT kind of reading. I see MANY people make this resolution and only a few actually do it. I’m jealous of those people that can read 20+ books a year. I’m a full time producer and when I’m not doing that, I’m working on blogs and videos. I basically work two full time jobs. This year, I got serious about time management and have freed up more reading time, but for the days I can’t sit down and pick up a book, I turn to Audible.
Although I like fiction, my heart sings when I can dive into personal development books. On busy days and sitting in LA traffic, Audible allows me to be inspired and make headway in all the books I am reading. It makes me feel spoiled. Who doesn’t like being read to, especially when the authors themselves are reading their own work! I love that more and more authors are doing this. There is a special connection you form with the words when you know it’s Shonda Rhimes reading The Year of Yes to you!
Audio books aren’t cheating, either! You’re gaining the same knowledge you would if you were to sit down and read it, but you’re able to gain the knowledge while also doing other things. Multitasking is my middle name. No more saying you don’t have time to read. Doing dishes? Might as well cue up your book. In the tub? Just hit play. It’s really great to be able to bring your current reading venture with you anywhere and everywhere. That’s why I think audio books are a game changer.
Interested in reading more this year? I started the Nikki Nurtures Virtual Book Club this month to help everyone get into the habit of A. expanding their minds by reading (or listening) and B. Making some time for yourself. Reading is GREAT “me timeâ€. January’s book was The Universe Has Your Back by Gabrielle Bernstein. Interested in signing up? Each month, I email out the next amazing personal development book we’ll be tackling, plus, the link to the discussion board. Want to know something awesome? Most of them are on audible. So you can still participate in the club even if you can’t read the physical book. Sign up for the Nikki Nurtures Virtual Book Club Here! (The next book gets emailed out tomorrow, 1/19/17. Don’t miss out. February’s book is going to be perfectly themed for the month of love.)
Audible, powered by Amazon.com, has a huge library! They even allow you to sign up for a 30-day Free Trial and give you TWO free audio books. I think it makes it worth trying out! Get your 30-Day Free Trial of Audible Here!

I tried the audiobooks in english to learn the language otherwise I like reading the old paper book I enjoy it more
I’m a fast reader, so audio books are too slow for me. I tend to listen to the radio in the car. I think they’d be good for trips with children though.
Thanks for sharing the free trial! I love how progressive technology is becoming. I’ll definitely start listening to some soon!
I use audio books when I’m at the gym because I still like to hear my stories while exercising. But at home there’s no substitute for a good old fashioned book. Love the smell and turning pages, the lot!

I was always amazed of what a technology can do for us, in this generation. There will always be something new for our convenience and benefits. Glad to know Audible and thank you for letting us know about this.
Now this looks like a book club I can get behind! As a single mom and a work-at-home author/blogger/entrepreneur, I need as many positive, motivational reads as I can get! I also love that you have an email signup, so that if by chance I don’t or can’t get to that month’s book, I can save the email for later.
I love audiobooks (they helped me to learn English:)), but I’ve never heard about Audible. I’m gonna sign for that Free Trial and test it :))
Oh man, they really are a game changer. I’m able to commute or do whatever hands free and still get the gist of the book!
Wow, That sounds like a great deal. I will have to sign up! Now I have to pick which two I want. That will be the hard part.
I am such a HUGE fan of audio books! There is nothing better than having someone read to you as you fall asleep. The worst part is that once you wake up, you forget where you are in the book (even if I set the timer, I still end up spending a good amount of time trying to figure out where I fell asleep) lol
I used to be one of those old fashioned people. I still believe in holding a good book. the smell of those pages as you turn them. ahhh BUT alas, life has changed and my children will not allow me to even hold a book. they always seem less interested in me when i’m holing an electronic device, so lately I’ve been on kindle. but now i want to try audible books especially because i do a lot of long distant driving. Thanks for sharing.
I have never listeded to an audible book before, I should try while driving, must be relaxing!

I have not listened to audio books since I was in elementary school. As I got older I just preferred to reading the books and creating voices for the characters myself. It always made it a lot more interesting for me and I was able to remember it better that way.
I am all about reading actually books as that is what brings my kids also closer in learning something new every day when I read for them. But with technology ahead, I am sure audio booms could be a real game changer and I am going to check out Audible for sure!
I’ll right away grab your rss as I can not find your e-mail subscription link or e-newsletter

Audiobooks are a nice alternative to reading books especially if you’re on the road often. I think it’s something that we can take advantage of but not over use. I still love the feel of new books and being able to read one,
I think an audio book is a lovely alternative especially if you’re too busy to read a whole book and bring it around with you. It’s convenient and it’s a great way to keep up with the books that you’ve been wanting to read for the longest time.
I love audiobooks, they’re great for on the go! Although, I have to admit, I love a good old fashioned hard copy of a book any day!
Thanks to advanced tech. I am learning a lot while doing some errands 🙂 I love Audiobooks <3
