Why Art Therapy is Good for Adults
I can look back fondly on Kindergarten because most of what I did, what we did there, was arts and crafts. Using my hands to create art was always soothing, no matter what my age, even for a grade. Here’s why I think it works.

Healthy Thanksgiving Options the Whole Family Will Love
Thanksgiving is probably my favorite holiday. My dad makes his yearly pilgrimage out west and I get to cook a feast for mine and my boyfriend’s family. This year, we wanted to opt for something a little less traditional and more on the healthy side of things, so while I was coming up with my menu, I jotted down some other healthy Thanksgiving options the whole family will love.
I believe that the part of us that feels joy or sorrow is our soul and not our mind. Your mind can be happy or sad, but at some point, it’s your soul or spirit that truly feels all the feelings. Connecting to your soul is as important as keeping your body and mind happy. Here are some exercises you can do to stay connected!
Happy Mind Exercise
A lot of what you can do for you mind is saying or writing down affirmations. These can be things you like about yourself or simple phrases like YOU ARE AWESOME. You ARE awesome. Everyone is. Don’t let your mind tell you otherwise. Learning how to reverse negative thoughts is the best way to keep your mind happy!
Work/Life Balance… Sometimes it’s hard to know if this actually exists. For someone that worries about work all the time, it was hard to shift to leaving work at work. Even if you have to worry about SOMETHING work related on a weekend, it’s important to unwind after your workweek. That means, on Friday night, you need to turn off (put the cell phones away) and figure out what you need to do to bring your life back into you. Let go of work and bring yourself back to life. Here are some tips for unwinding after your workweek!
Learn to be Flexible
Parts of my life are very regimented. I have checklists for my checklists. I do things in order of importance, methodically, thoroughly… being sandbagged while I’m knee deep in my process often makes me anxious or even angry. It’s not that I can’t handle switching gears or expecting the unexpected, I would just rather take time to reshuffle instead of completely switching gears. I guess you could call me anal, but I know that I have a hard time being flexible sometimes. I know how I want to get from A to B and that’s all that matters. But in life, which is already a true balancing act, we all need to learn to be flexible.
The Most Effective Cardio
A lot of people think that to lose weight and get the body you want, you have to do cardio. True. Cardio will help you burn fat. BUT, overtraining cardio will also start to eat your muscle. Muscle is what keeps you tone and helps you burn fat when you’re not working out, so too much cardio will give you the result of “skinny fat”. I’ve been there.
