Rescued by Design: Upcycled Handbags for a Good Cause
The internet has been good to me. I have a thriving blog and recently I have met some amazing female entrepreneurs. Breaking out of my shell to really start networking was the best thing I’ve ever done because I got to e-meet a woman named Amanda who makes these amazing bags! Her business is called Rescued by Design. (I did a smaller feature on her business last month.) She takes things that were once loved and upcycles them to something new so that they can be loved again. 20% of her profits also go to several different charities.
I first noticed her in a LulaRoe Facebook group. She was taking damaged items and making makeup bags, wristlets, fanny packs, and other fun handbags. People searched forever for their unicorn prints and I can’t even imagine the devastation they feel when they come damaged or wear out. Even though I didn’t have any Lula to part with, I couldn’t resist getting a bag for myself!
(I also got one as a gift, so I hope the person it’s going to doesn’t read this blog before Christmas! haha)
I have this horrible habit of buying things without trying them on… so, it was a crappy surprise to find out that a couple of maxi skirts I had bought on a whim were about 2 feet too long THE DAY I wanted to wear one. So, back in the closet they went because I didn’t want to take them to the tailor. I wound up sending Amanda both skirts and requested a BIG bag for both. I like to be Mary Poppins — carrying anything I could ever need with me at all times.
Amanda’s work exceeded my expectations! Look at how cute!
She paired my maxi skirt with light denim and I couldn’t be more happy with it. Since I live in Los Angeles, I can get away with using a summer bag all year. I have so many outfits I can style this with! When Amanda posted a photo of this bag in her facebook group, women went nuts over it. I know one chickadee ordered the same one, so somewhere out there, I have a bag twin! My second bag is a more fall/winter vibe with faux black leather. I had to keep reminding myself that I got this made as a gift for someone! 😉
If you’re looking for unique, one-of-a-kind gifts for your gal pals, definitely look into purchasing something from Rescued by Design. You can either send Amanda fabric/clothes or she’ll pick from her stash of donated items to make you something beautiful. Don’t forget that she donates 20% of her profits to charity and shopping small is good for everyone involved.
